I found this book while browsing through Blossoms.
Relatively unknown, but winner of Man Booker Prize 2003.
In one line, it can be said to be Catcher In The Rye of the 21st century.
But actually, the book’s theme is different. Catcher in the rye is somewhat dark and pessimistic, yet yearning to break free. Vernon God Little too does get a little dark, but the humour is quite prominent. There is no page without a catchy one liner, and every once in a while you’ll find something really funny.
All in all, a social satire of today’s phonies…as Holden Caufield himself would say
